MINING & PETROLIUM LAW
Considered a geological scandal because of the immense wealth of its subsoil, Guinea is also known for the quality of its mining resources. The government's approach is to use mining resources to develop other sectors and improve the availability of socio-productive infrastructure. In doing so, the Government is investing heavily in the construction of hydroelectric dams both to establish its sustainable energy independence and to transform its raw materials locally.
In this context, since 2011, Guinea's mining legal and regulatory framework has undergone major reforms that have profoundly modified the applicable law in order to implement national development strategies. Mining and petroleum legislation has since then provided legal certainty for investors and facilitated procedures for obtaining permits, concessions, oil production sharing contracts (PSCs) and authorisations.
